My name is Mary O'Neill and I'm a qualified, experienced and registered Teacher. I offer individual Structured Literacy tuition on the Kapiti Coast.
I opened Read Write Kapiti in 2022, while continuing to teach Literacy Intervention part-time at local schools. It has been wonderful being able to see students progress and develop. Their confidence and skills soon begin to soar after individual tuition.
Whether your child is struggling with reading, writing, spelling (with or without a formal diagnosis), I able to help children learn to read and write.

I have 9+ years teaching Structured Literacy including 3 years intervention teaching in schools and privately.

I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Literacy Teaching.

I have completed a Science of Reading course & exam accredited by the International Dyslexia Association.

I hold the BSLA Specialist Reading Facilitator/Specialist Qualification from the University of Canterbury.

I have completed the IMSLE Tier 2 & 3 Specialist Teacher Qualification and will continue to qualify as a Dyslexia Specialist Teacher through IMSLE in 2026.

I have received 3 years training from Liz Kane Literacy.
I have been teaching using evidence-based structured literacy for over 9 years, and have seen the difference it makes to our tamariki.

Rate: $90/hr
30 mins: $45
45 mins: $70
(includes all planning, resources and stationery)
Prices include GST.

Years 0-10
(Ages 4-15)
In School/Homeschooling Lessons:
Lessons during school hours are held on Tuesdays - Thursdays at Waikanae and Kapakapanui Schools.
Lessons for Home-schooled students are also available Tuesdays - Thursdays.
Before/After School lessons:
Lessons before and after school are held every day between 7.30 - 8.15 am.
After school lessons are available every day between 3.30 pm and 6 pm.
